The House of Representatives Committee investigating the activities of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has directed the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to produce the organisation’s self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeyemi Adeniyi, before the committee by noon on Wednesday as part of its ongoing investigation into the council’s operations.

The directive was issued on Monday during the committee’s resumed investigative hearing at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja. Representing the Inspector-General of Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bashir Abdullahi appeared before the lawmakers and was instructed to ensure Adeyemi’s presence to provide clarification on allegations surrounding the activities and status of the organisation.

The committee is investigating how the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, despite allegedly lacking legal backing, secured office accommodation within Phase III of the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja and received a budgetary allocation of ₦1.32 billion in the 2026 Appropriation Act. Lawmakers are also examining the processes through which the organisation operated and the legitimacy of its claims to official recognition.

During the hearing, the Nigeria Police Force confirmed that its investigation was initiated following petitions from the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President. According to the police, the petitions alleged that Adeyemi fraudulently presented himself as the Director-General of both the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, prompting a criminal investigation.

Chairman of the committee, Yusuf Gagdi, said Adeyemi’s appearance before lawmakers had become necessary because of the gravity of the allegations and the reputations of the public institutions involved. He stressed that the committee needed to verify documents and obtain firsthand explanations without compromising the integrity of its investigation.

Gagdi stated that the matter was no longer optional, noting that the committee required Adeyemi’s testimony to establish facts and enable it to conclude its assignment within the stipulated timeframe. Following deliberations, the committee directed its clerk to formally communicate its resolution to the Inspector-General of Police, requesting that Adeyemi be presented before the panel by noon on Wednesday.

Earlier, ACP Abdullahi informed the committee that the Nigeria Police Force had already concluded part of its investigation and filed an eight-count charge against Adeyemi before the Federal High Court. He disclosed that the suspect had been arrested and arraigned, adding that the criminal case was currently before the court.

The senior police officer, however, cautioned against making public disclosures that could interfere with the ongoing investigation or prejudice judicial proceedings. He maintained that the police would continue to cooperate with the committee while ensuring that the integrity of both the investigation and the court process is preserved.

The House committee is expected to continue its inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the establishment, funding and operations of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council as lawmakers seek to determine whether due process was followed and whether any public officials or institutions bear responsibility for the alleged irregularities.
