As part of plans to strengthen grassroots football development in Ekiti State, Afriskaut, a leading African football scouting and talent discovery platform, has trained youth team representatives ahead of the fifth edition of the Prof. Akin Oyebode Cup.
The onboarding programme, organised by Phoenix Athletics Sports Limited, managers of the competition, was held in Ado-Ekiti and brought together representatives from various Local Football Councils (LFCs).
The training focused on player data management and the effective use of Afriskaut’s digital platform to improve player profiling and increase opportunities for young footballers to be discovered by professional clubs and scouts.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Athletics Sports Limited, Bayo Olalenge, commended the Afriskaut team for providing participants with practical knowledge that will enhance the quality and impact of the tournament.
Olalenge described the partnership as a major step towards achieving the competition’s long-term objective of creating sustainable pathways for talented players to transition into professional football.
According to him, the collaboration goes beyond the tournament itself by ensuring that outstanding players are properly documented and showcased to a wider network of football stakeholders.
Leading the training session, Afriskaut’s Chief Operating Officer, Ussa Buggu, explained the platform’s processes and highlighted the importance of accurate player data in modern football talent identification.
Buggu said Afriskaut serves as a valuable marketing tool for young players by providing detailed profiles and performance data that can be accessed by scouts, clubs, agents and football academies across Africa and beyond.
He also guided participants on practical methods of maintaining accurate and up-to-date player records, stressing that proper documentation significantly improves players’ chances of securing professional opportunities.
The partnership between Phoenix Athletics Sports Limited and Afriskaut is expected to further professionalise the Prof. Akin Oyebode Cup, positioning the competition as a key platform for discovering and developing football talent in Ekiti State and beyond.
