The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Lagos state chapter lashed out at the Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike over recent comments against party chieftain Olabode George describing them as baseless, reckless and ignorant.
Lagos State PDP Publicity Secretary. Dr Christopher Odianarewo in a statement urged the minister to focus on his responsibilities in the FCT and stop peddling pedestrian gossip.
Reacting to the allegations of corruption, the party defended George stating that he had been exonerated by the Supreme Court from all corrupt allegations during his tenure as Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Board.
It also criticised Wike’s comment about George ‘s house in Maitama describing it as an abuse of office, an unwarranted intrusion into the private affairs of a citizen and condemned Wike for attempting to use his ministerial portfolio as a license to intimidate citizens or weaponize state power against private individuals.
The party maintained that the former Rivers Governor lacked an understanding of the state’s political history insisting that George played a significant role in the PDP’s electoral successes in the South while serving as the party’s National Vice Chairman (South).
The statement also referenced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, claiming he had previously acknowledged the role internal party dynamics played in the PDP’s electoral fortunes in Lagos.
The Lagos PDP further accused Wike of political inconsistency, alleging that he had fallen out with several former political associates, including Peter Odili, Rotimi Amaechi and Goodluck Jonathan. arguing that Wike had developed a reputation for political confrontations and suggested that his current relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was one of political convenience.
The party called on the minister to refrain from making remarks against George, urging him to show restraint and respect.
