President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Muslims across Nigeria on the celebration of this year’s Eid-el-Maulud, urging the faithful to embrace and practise the teachings and virtues of Prophet Muhammad.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the President said the occasion should go beyond celebrating the birth of the Holy Prophet to provide an opportunity for Muslims to reflect, pray and draw lessons from his exemplary life.
Tinubu urged Muslim faithful to make deliberate efforts to uphold the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, highlighting devotion, perseverance, tolerance, humility and selflessness as important virtues Nigerians can learn from his life.
“The Muslim faithful should make deliberate effort to adhere to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
There are great lessons of devotion, perseverance, tolerance, humility and selflessness that we can all learn from the life of the Prophet,” he said.
The President also urged Islamic scholars and religious leaders to use the Maulud period to pray for the country and encourage their followers to translate the lessons of the Prophet’s life into their commitment to Nigeria.
He called on Muslims to demonstrate greater patriotism, compassion and responsibility in their various communities.
Tinubu further encouraged those celebrating the festival to extend a hand of fellowship to the needy and vulnerable as part of the spirit of the season.
He said acts of kindness and support for disadvantaged members of society would reflect the values of compassion and selflessness associated with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
The President also called for prayers against insecurity and other challenges affecting parts of the country, urging Nigerians to continue to seek peace, unity and stability.
