The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, despite Dangote Refinery’s free petrol delivery initiative and a decline in crude oil prices.
A market survey conducted by DAILY POST on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, showed that NNPCL retail outlets in Abuja and its environs had increased their petrol price from ₦1,250 to ₦1,270 per litre.
The latest adjustment represents a ₦20 per litre increase at the state-owned filling stations.
The NNPCL price increase comes as the Dangote Refinery expands its free petrol delivery initiative to 10 destinations across Nigeria, including Abuja.
Under the initiative, petrol is reportedly being supplied at ₦1,185 per litre, further intensifying competition in the downstream petroleum market.
The price difference has raised fresh attention to the varying pump prices being offered by major fuel suppliers and retail outlets across the country.
Following the latest adjustment, NNPCL’s petrol price is now between ₦15 and ₦40 per litre higher than the prices offered by several other filling stations in Abuja and surrounding areas.
The affected outlets include MRS, Geregu, Ranoil, Emedab and Mobil, among others.
The latest development is expected to further shape competition in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector as refiners and fuel marketers adjust prices in response to changing market conditions.
