The crisis within the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) in Oyo State has deepened, with aggrieved party members filing two separate suits against the party at the Federal High Court in Ibadan.
The suits, which were brought before Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court 1, Ibadan, were adjourned until September 21 for hearing.
One of the suits was filed by 33 candidates who emerged from the APM’s primary election for the December 2026 Oyo State local government elections.
The candidates, led by Bisi Akande, are seeking an order restraining the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) from monitoring any fresh APM primary for the local government election, arguing that they had already emerged as the party’s candidates from a duly conducted primary.
According to the applicants, the primary was held on August 3, 2026, and their names were subsequently submitted to OYSIEC by the appropriate authorities.
They alleged that some party stakeholders, dissatisfied with the outcome of the first primary, approached OYSIEC to monitor another primary despite existing party guidelines which, according to them, prohibit the sponsorship of two candidates for the same position after one has already emerged.
The applicants are therefore asking the court to stop OYSIEC from monitoring any further primary conducted by the APM for the affected positions.
The second suit was filed by Musibau Olayiwola, an elected zonal vice chairman of the party.
Olayiwola is challenging the validity of the APM National Convention recently held in Bauchi State and is seeking an order directing the party to conduct a fresh convention.
He argued that he emerged from a duly conducted zonal congress on May 23, 2026, and that the list of successful candidates from the congress was submitted to the party’s national leadership and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to him, while other elected officials were issued nomination forms ahead of the national convention, he was denied a nomination form despite repeated efforts to obtain one.
He contended that the refusal prevented his position as zonal chairman from being ratified at the convention and violated his rights under the APM constitution and the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
The suit, marked FHC/IB/CS/101/26, names the Allied Peoples’ Movement, its National Chairman, Yusuff Dantalle, National Secretary, Oyadeyi Adebayo, the Chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee and INEC as defendants.

The latest legal actions add to growing internal disagreements within the APM in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Governor Seyi Makinde is the APM’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election, while Bimbo Adekanmbi is the party’s governorship candidate in Oyo State.
The two suits are expected to be heard on September 21.
