Nollywood stars Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham are set for another potential box-office showdown as their latest movies are scheduled to arrive in cinemas just five days apart in December.
Akindele’s “The Four: No One Fights Alone” is set for release on December 11, while Abraham’s “Bestie” will hit cinemas on December 16.
The close release dates have already sparked fresh comparisons between the two actresses, with fans of both stars taking to social media to debate which movie could emerge as the bigger December attraction.
The latest exchange began after Abraham unveiled “Bestie” on Friday. Some social media users accused the actress and producer of drawing inspiration from Akindele’s movie, while others pushed back against the allegation and challenged those making the claims to provide evidence of what she allegedly copied.
One X user, AjibolaLateefat, wrote: “Omg that other producer copies Funke Akindele every time, like you just know she turned on her post notification for Funke Akindele’s post.”
Another user defended Abraham, questioning the basis of the allegation and writing: “People saying she copied Funke Akindele, bring out the Funke Akindele video she copied, Ko kin suyin ni?”
The renewed comparison also drew attention from Akindele, who reportedly reposted a fan’s comment on X that described avoiding people for peace as a form of self-care and referred to her as a “pace setter.”
However, Akindele responded to the post with a love emoji.
With their films arriving within the same week, attention is now likely to shift from social media debates to cinema performance as audiences decide which movie will dominate the December box office.
