For many young people, music is more than entertainment. It can be a reflection of personal experiences, struggles, dreams and the hope for a better future.

For this emerging artist from Akwa Ibom, music has become a channel through which he hopes to share his story and inspire others.

Born and raised in Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Henshaw Abraham comes from a family of four children—three girls and one boy.

His journey has not been without challenges, particularly after losing his mother at the age of two.

Reflecting on his childhood, Abraham admitted that growing up without his mother was difficult, especially knowing he would not get the opportunity to create some of the beautiful memories many people share with their mothers.

Despite the hardship, he remains grateful to God and appreciative of his father for doing his best to keep the family together and make life better for his children.

“I lost my mom when I was two years old.

It was difficult not to experience and have good moments with her, but we bless God.

Everything happens for a reason,” he said.

His educational journey was also interrupted, as he stopped during secondary school.

However, the setback did not stop his passion for music or his desire to make something meaningful out of his life.

Outside music, he enjoys playing football and listening to music. Singing, particularly during his free time, remains one of his favourite ways to express himself.

How Henshaw Abraham Became Big Sygn

Before settling on the name Big Sygn, Henshaw was once known as Rishkey.

His journey to finding his current identity began after recording his first song with YMD.

According to the artiste, after returning to his base, he had a dream in which he repeatedly heard someone calling him “Sygn.”

“When I woke up, I just quickly changed my name to Sygn.

I think there is something special coming,” he said.

For him, the name represents more than just a stage identity.

It is connected to his belief that something significant lies ahead in his musical journey.

‘Don’t Be Late’ — A Message to Young People

His latest single, “Don’t Be Late,” carries a message he believes is particularly important for young people trying to improve their lives.

According to him, the song is inspired by the realities of life, the unpredictable nature of wealth and the importance of putting God first while pursuing success.

“Don’t Be Late is a message to every youth out there trying to make things better,” he explained.

“Life is not just what you plan at first.

Things happen differently, and wealth is something that is hard to control.

But putting God first is important for a better future and for wealth to stay.”

For him, the title is more than just the name of a song. It is a reminder that opportunities, time and life itself should not be taken for granted.

Omah Lay: The Artist Who Inspires Him

When asked about his favourite genre and musical influence, the artist quickly points to Nigerian singer Omah Lay.

He says Omah Lay’s music has influenced the way he thinks about life and music, particularly because of the depth and spirituality he finds in the songs.

Among Omah Lay’s songs, “Safe Haven” stands out as his favourite, although he also enjoys several other tracks from the singer.

“Omah Lay is actually too good.

I love the way he starts and ends his songs, and the beats are always amazing,” he said.

His admiration for Omah Lay goes beyond the music itself. He describes the singer as someone who has helped shape his understanding of music and life.

Personal Experiences as Inspiration

The artist says his biggest source of inspiration is his own life.

His experiences growing up, the challenges he has faced and his love for inspirational music have all contributed to his desire to create music that connects with listeners.

He recalls developing an interest in inspirational music from a young age but says his appreciation for Omah Lay’s artistry deepened his understanding of how music can communicate emotions and life experiences.

“Life and music are very spiritual, and that’s a fact,” he said.

Dream Collaboration

When asked which artist he would love to collaborate with in the future, his answer comes as little surprise: Omah Lay.

He admits that people may wonder why he constantly mentions the singer, but says Omah Lay’s music has had a significant impact on him.

“He has built something in me with his music so much, and I pray God sees me through because I have a lot to share with the world,” he said.

With his personal experiences, determination and passion for inspirational music driving him forward, the emerging artist hopes “Don’t Be Late” will connect with young people and encourage them to pursue their dreams while keeping God at the centre of their journey.
