The re-election of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, is facing legal challenges as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have filed separate petitions before the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
The petitions were displayed on the notice board of the tribunal in Osogbo on Monday, September 7, 2026, as proceedings got underway at the tribunal secretariat.
The tribunal secretary, Pefe Belemore, had earlier indicated that the notices would be displayed before noon. Secretariat officials were also present at the venue as preparations for the tribunal’s sitting continued.
The APC petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
The petition names Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents.
A second petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The petition lists Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party as respondents.
Both petitions are challenging the outcome of the August 15 governorship election, which returned Adeleke for another term in office.
The display of the petitions is a procedural requirement and does not amount to a determination of the cases. The parties involved must still be formally served before substantive proceedings can begin.
Adeleke remains the declared winner of the election pending the outcome of the legal challenges.
The detailed grounds on which the petitions are based have not yet been made public, and the tribunal has not issued any ruling on the cases.
