Former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, AIG Olohundare Jimoh, has dismissed reports suggesting that the police command in the state has taken political sides ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Jimoh’s comments followed reactions to the presence of some police officers at a public gathering organised by the “City Boy” support group.
Speaking in an interview today, the former police chief defended the officers’ presence, insisting that their deployment was strictly for security purposes and should not be interpreted as an indication of political alignment.
He explained that the gathering was organised by a support group backing a candidate and that the police were deployed to provide security and maintain law and order during the event.
Jimoh stressed that security operatives are deployed to public gatherings based on security considerations, regardless of whether such events are organised by political parties, support groups or human rights organisations.
According to him, the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to performing its duties without bias, favouritism or political affiliation.
He cautioned members of the public against interpreting police presence at political or other public gatherings as an endorsement of the organisers or any candidate.
Jimoh reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
