Two loyalists of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudasiru Obasa, are reportedly set to contest the 2027 Lagos Assembly election on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The two lawmakers, Ganiyu Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf, are said to have picked APM tickets to contest the Agege Constituency 1 and Agege Constituency 2 seats respectively.

Both politicians had contested the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries for the constituencies but reportedly lost their bids.

Their defeat in the APC primaries had generated controversy, with reports suggesting that there were attempts to secure the nominations for candidates aligned with the Speaker.

A source within the APM State Executive confirmed the development, but the party’s Chairman, Shakirat Adeyemo, and spokesman, Ayodele Kazeem, have so far declined to formally confirm the candidates’ emergence on the party’s platform.

The reported move has also raised questions about the legal and procedural requirements governing candidates who move from one political party to another after participating in a party primary.

However, losing an APC primary does not, by itself, prevent an aspirant from subsequently seeking nomination under another political party.

Any potential legal issue would depend on factors including the candidates’ party membership status, the timing and manner of their nomination, compliance with APM’s internal rules and applicable provisions of the Electoral Act.

Further details are expected to emerge as political parties finalise their nominations ahead of the 2027 elections.

Gunther added that the trade relations between Germany and Nigeria stood at about €3bn. She said, “I think agriculture is a very good area for cooperation, not only because we can help in the area of food security, which is important to Nigeria, but also in improvement of export of processed products. “Instead of selling more raw products, we will have more value creation within the country to create more jobs. “As part of our development cooperation, we have a programme in agriculture that also focuses on exactly that value chain, which supports small and medium-sized enterprises in the sector,” she said.
