The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has sealed premises identified for persistent illegal waste dumping along Ago Palace Way and arrested 11 persons for alleged illegal waste disposal in various parts of Lagos Island.
The Managing Director LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the operations demonstrated the Authority’s resolve to enforce existing environmental regulations and tackle activities contributing to improper waste disposal.
Gbadegesin said the enforcement operation along Ago Palace Way covered plazas, hotels, lounges and warehouses identified with activities contributing to waste accumulation and environmental nuisance on road setbacks, medians and other unauthorised public spaces.
He added that a separate enforcement exercise on Lagos Island, covering Tinubu, Apongbon, Oke-Arin and CMC areas, resulted in the arrest of 11 persons for unauthorised handling and illegal disposal of waste.
The LAWMA boss warned that indiscriminate waste disposal remained harmful to the environment and urged residents, traders and businesses to stop dumping waste on roads, walkways, drains and other unauthorised locations
