The Founder of CAC Grace of Mercy Prayer Mountain Worldwide, Prophet Sam Olu-Alo, has become the first Nigerian cleric to visit the historic Memorial-Gilgal site in Israel, according to an Israeli tour guide accompanying his pilgrimage team.
The claim was made as Prophet Olu-Alo led Christian faithful on a special pilgrimage to Jordan and Israel, which entered its fourth day on Tuesday.
The site is associated with Gilgal, where, according to the biblical account, the Israelites camped after crossing the Jordan River into the Promised Land. Joshua, who succeeded Moses, is said to have set up 12 stones representing the 12 tribes of Israel as a memorial to the crossing.
While the precise location of biblical Gilgal remains the subject of debate, the site visited by Prophet Olu-Alo was identified by Israeli archaeologist Prof. Adam Zertal during archaeological surveys. Zertal’s team identified several sites in the Jordan Valley as possible Gilgal sites, while in 2009 his team discovered an ancient underground quarry that he associated with the biblical Gilgal.
The tour guide told the pilgrims that Prophet Olu-Alo was the first Nigerian to step on the historic site in about 3,300 years.
The pilgrimage has also featured visits to Mount Nebo, the remains of Jericho and other historic sites across Jordan.
