The authorities of the University of Ilorin in Kwara State have expelled a 100-Level student of the institution, Olanrewaju AbdulKadir, for allegedly demanding a ransom from the parent of his missing colleague.

The expulsion of AbdulKadir was confirmed in the weekly bulletin of the university signed by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun.

The expelled student, with matriculation number 22/52HL004, was of the Department of Information Technology in the Faculty of  Communication and Information Sciences.

It was gathered that the university rusticated a 400-level student, Segun Micheal Oyewole, for beating a fellow female student.

Oyewole, who was rusticated for one academic session, is from the Department of Counsellor Education, Faculty of Education.

Meanwhile, the university has announced the promotion of 16 of its senior academics to the rank of Professor.

Their elevation, following the recommendations of the University Appointment and Promotion Committee and with the approval of the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, SAN, recognises their exceptional achievements in teaching, research, and community service.

A statement from the Office of the Registrar said that the 16 distinguished scholars were found to have excelled in the realms of teaching, research and community service.

The breakdown of the beneficiaries of the promotion exercise shows that three of the new Professors are produced by the Faculty of Clinical Sciences and they are Prof. John Kola Olarinoye, Prof. James Ayodele Ogunmodede, and Prof. Simeon Kayode Olubiyi.

The Faculty of Education produced Prof. Abdulrahman Suyuti Omosidi, who teaches at the Department of Educational Management.

Two lecturers from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology were also elevated to the rank of Professor, namely, Prof. Kamorudeen Olaniyi Yusuf and Prof. Habeeb Adewale Ajimotokan.
