The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture is set to host a stakeholders’ workshop aimed at strengthening Community-Based Tourism (CBT) and promoting greater community participation in the sustainable development of tourism across the state.
The workshop, themed “Strengthening Community-Based Tourism: Building Sustainable Tourism through Community Participation,” will hold on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture Auditorium, Ikeja.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, said the workshop would provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss practical strategies for developing sustainable tourism through community participation, ownership and collaboration.
According to her, the initiative is part of the ministry’s efforts to expand Community-Based Tourism by encouraging communities to identify, develop and promote tourism attractions and opportunities within their localities.
Oyekan-Ismaila noted that Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas are strategically positioned to identify tourism assets at the grassroots and ensure that residents are actively involved in their development and promotion.
She added that representatives of LGAs and LCDAs have been invited to the workshop to share their experiences and perspectives on how community participation can drive tourism development, create local economic opportunities and enhance Lagos’ position as a leading tourism destination.
The ministry expects the workshop to strengthen collaboration among government, communities and other tourism stakeholders while creating opportunities to unlock the tourism potential of communities across Lagos State.
