The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has expressed its readiness to strengthen collaboration with Skål International as the global tourism organisation considers Nigeria as a potential host of its World Congress, with Lagos identified as the preferred destination.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, stated this on Monday, September 21, 2026, when she received a delegation led by the World President of Skål International, Mr André Hayes, during a courtesy visit to the ministry.
Oyekan-Ismaila said the state government remained committed to positioning Lagos as a leading tourism destination in Africa, noting that the state is a major hub for tourism, culture, creativity and entertainment.
She also commended Skål International for its global reach and inclusive representation, particularly the participation of women in the delegation, and expressed the ministry’s willingness to explore areas of mutual interest that could promote tourism development, international networking and the visibility of Lagos globally.
Earlier, Hayes disclosed that Skål International was exploring Nigeria as a host country for its World Congress, with Lagos being considered as the preferred destination. He said the proposed event would provide an opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s tourism assets and potential to an international audience.
Hayes added that the delegation’s visit was also aimed at gaining first-hand experience of Lagos’ tourism and hospitality offerings. He disclosed that members had visited attractions including the Badagry Museum and the Point of No Return, while also experiencing local cuisine as part of their engagement with the state’s cultural heritage.
He stressed the importance of stronger collaboration and networking among tourism stakeholders, noting that partnerships were essential to addressing emerging challenges and creating new opportunities in the global tourism sector.
Also speaking, the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Goge Africa, Ambassador Isaac Moses, highlighted the role of hospitality in shaping visitors’ experiences. He commended the hospitality of Lagos residents and emphasised the importance of storytelling and the media in promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage and tourism attractions.
The Pioneer of Tourism and Creative Sector Business for a financial institution, Mrs Abiola Adelana, called for stronger collaboration among financial institutions, government and private-sector stakeholders to support the growth of Nigeria’s tourism industry.
The meeting was attended by the President of Skål Nigeria, Mr Ademola Sanya; Chief Executive Officer of Goge Africa, Ambassador Isaac Onyemaechi; Managing Director of Goge Africa, Ambassador Nneka Isaac-Moses; and members of the management team of the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
