The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has expelled former Agege Local Government Chairman, Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi, and former Agege Constituency II aspirant, Azeez Yusuf, following their defection to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The state APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, announced the expulsion on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, accusing the two former members of anti-party activities and disloyalty. Egunjobi and Yusuf had contested the APC nomination process for Agege Constituencies I and II respectively before subsequently securing APM tickets for the seats ahead of the 2027 Lagos State House of Assembly election.
Ojelabi said the duo failed to respect the outcome of the APC’s internal process or pursue available avenues of redress within the party and the law. He said the party had invoked Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022, in taking disciplinary action against them.
The APC chairman further declared that Egunjobi and Yusuf were no longer members of the party and therefore had no authority to speak for, represent or transact business on behalf of the Lagos State APC or the national party. He urged party members, supporters and the public to take note of their changed status.
The expulsion followed the duo’s earlier defence of their decision to leave the APC and contest under the APM. They said their departure was an independent decision following what they described as “grave injustice” in the handling of the APC primaries. They also denied that their move was linked to Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudasiru Obasa.
Egunjobi and Yusuf subsequently said they had resigned from the APC in July, weeks before the party announced their expulsion, and questioned how the party could expel them after their alleged resignation.
The two said they had previously submitted petitions and sought internal redress over the disputed primaries but were dissatisfied with the response from the party leadership. They maintained that their move to the APM followed their decision to pursue their political ambitions on another platform.
