A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of social media influencer Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known as KC Luxury, and two others pending its ruling on their bail applications.
Justice Musa Kakaki made the order after the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arraigned the trio on a 22-count charge bordering on alleged drug trafficking, money laundering and related offences.
Kazeem, also known as KayCee Luxury, KC and Yemi Ejide, was arraigned alongside Boniface Freeman Ochoche Sule and Ikechukwu Ekugo Patriarch. The three defendants pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The prosecution alleged that the defendants conspired with two others, Atandare Oladipupo Oluwarotimi and Latifat Yusuf, who were said to have been arrested in London, to export 184.5 kilogrammes of cocaine to the United Kingdom in five consignments.
It further alleged that Kazeem procured a logistics operator to facilitate the shipments and transferred N13.2 million as payment for the alleged export.
The influencer is also facing several counts of alleged money laundering and dealing in proceeds of unlawful activity. The prosecution claimed that he used companies and bank accounts linked to him and others to move hundreds of millions of naira and conceal the alleged source of the funds.
Counts seven to 17 involve alleged transactions ranging from N50 million to N924.24 million and N790.35 million. The prosecution also alleged that N528.5 million was transferred to a motor company for the purchase of vehicles with proceeds of unlawful activity, while another count involved an alleged N1.035 billion transfer for motor vehicles.
In count 21, the prosecution alleged that Kazeem acquired motor vehicles and landed properties between 2024 and August 4, 2026, knowing or having reason to know that they were proceeds of unlawful activity.
Following their pleas, prosecution counsel, Ibrahim Abu, asked the court to remand the defendants and fix a date for trial. Defence lawyers, led by A. Labi-Lawal, SAN, and Benson Ndankara, however, urged the court to hear their bail applications, which they said had been served on the prosecution.
The prosecution opposed the bail applications, while Kazeem’s counsel also urged the court to grant him bail on health grounds, citing documents attached to the application.
After hearing the arguments, Justice Kakaki fixed October 2, 2026, for ruling on the bail applications and ordered that the defendants remain in custody pending the ruling.
Kazeem was arrested by the NDLEA on August 13 at the departure hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while allegedly attempting to travel to Paris, France.
The NDLEA had linked the arrest to the seizure of 184.5 kilogrammes of cocaine at a DHL facility in Ikeja, Lagos.
The allegations against the defendants are contained in the charge and have not been proven in court.
