The House of Representatives has approved the extension of the implementation of the capital component of the 2025 Appropriation Act to December 31, 2026.
The extension followed the consideration of a bill seeking to amend the Appropriation Repeal and Re-enactment Act 2025 during resumed plenary after the annual parliamentary recess.
Leading the debate, the House Leader, Julius Ihonvbere, cited economic and fiscal challenges, as well as the need to complete ongoing projects, as reasons for the fourth extension of the 2025 budget implementation.
Meanwhile, three executive bills were also introduced during the plenary.
Among them is a request from President Bola Tinubu for the consideration and approval of the National Research and Development Fund Establishment Bill.
The bill seeks to establish a framework for funding research and development activities across Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government.
The President also transmitted the 2026 statutory budget of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, to the House for consideration.
The third bill is the National Postgraduate Medical College Amendment Bill 2026, which seeks to expand the mandate of the College to include the award of Ph.D. degrees in Clinical Medicine.
