The Peoples Redemption Party presidential candidate, Donald Duke, has said he would reduce the pump price of petrol to about N300 per litre if elected president in 2027.
Duke, a former governor of Cross River State, made the pledge during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Wednesday.
When asked what Nigerians should expect to pay for petrol under his administration, Duke said his target would be around N300 per litre.
“I’ll try and bring it to about N300,” he said, adding that the proposal was based on calculations around Nigeria’s crude oil production and domestic consumption.
According to the former governor, his administration would allocate about 600,000 barrels of crude oil daily for domestic consumption while selling the remaining one million barrels.
He said the arrangement would provide the basis for reducing the cost of petrol without relying solely on the existing pricing structure.
Duke’s proposal comes amid continued political debate over the removal of petrol subsidy by the administration of President Bola Tinubu in 2023.
