The National Coordinator of the Jagabanist Support Group, Barrister Temitope Omotayo, has urged members and supporters of the group to intensify grassroots mobilisation and constructive engagement in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Omotayo gave the charge in Ado-Ekiti at the group’s national conference for state coordinators, where he called for sustained commitment to promoting the administration’s policies and programmes.
He said the Tinubu administration, since assuming office in 2023, had introduced policies including the removal of fuel subsidy and the establishment of the student loan scheme, which she described as part of efforts to reposition the country for development.
The national coordinator urged members to communicate the administration’s achievements to Nigerians and mobilise support for the President ahead of the 2027 general election.
In her welcome address, the Ekiti State Coordinator of the group, Oyenike Akinlua, called on members to remain committed to the Jagabanist movement, stressing that effective mobilisation must begin at the grassroots.
Akinlua said members must demonstrate dedication to the group’s objectives by engaging communities, strengthening their political structures and encouraging wider participation in the movement.
Also speaking, the Anambra State Coordinator, Comrade Ebube Ezekafor-Ebubedike, said the group remained determined to work for Tinubu’s re-election despite the state being the political base of Nigerian Democratic Congress candidate, Peter Obi.
He said the group’s position is consistent with the political direction of Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, while acknowledging Obi’s constitutional right to contest the presidency.
Ezekafor-Ebubedike argued that Obi could contribute his ideas to the Tinubu administration rather than pursue the presidency at this time, expressing support for what he described as progressive continuity.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, has called for stronger internal democracy within political parties, emphasising fairness and equity in the selection of candidates and the emergence of party leaders.
Aribasoye, who spoke through his Special Adviser, Kemisola Ajibola, also stressed the importance of investing in leadership development and establishing effective succession plans within political parties.
He said grassroots members and supporters should be included in leadership development efforts to strengthen party structures and ensure continuity.
The conference attracted state coordinators of the Jagabanist Support Group, representatives of the City Boys Movement and a representative of the Chairman of the National Examinations Council, NECO, Modupe Adelabu, among other dignitaries.
