The White House has confirmed that former President Donald Trump is suffering from a chronic vein condition, following several days of public speculation over images showing bruising on his hand.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made the announcement on Thursday, noting that Trump recently underwent a comprehensive medical evaluation after experiencing swelling in his legs.
“President Trump underwent vascular testing and other examinations after reporting leg swelling,” Leavitt said.
“The bruising on his hand is consistent with tissue damage caused by frequent handshaking, compounded by the use of aspirin as part of a standard cardiovascular prevention regimen.”
The 79-year-old, who is currently campaigning for a return to the White House in 2025, has long insisted on his physical fitness, famously calling himself “the healthiest president that’s ever lived.”
