The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and former Osun State governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has declared that he will not be contesting the 2026 governorship election in the state.
Oyetola made the announcement during an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting held in Osogbo on Friday, where party leaders and five governorship aspirants were present.
There had been growing speculation about his potential return to the governorship race, but Oyetola put the rumours to rest, stressing that his focus remains on ensuring the APC reclaims power in Osun come 2026.
“I am not running. What matters now is unity, focus, and strategy. Bringing the APC back to power in Osun is achievable, and that is our collective goal,” he told attendees.
Oyetola co-chaired the meeting alongside Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, and Chairman of the Elders’ Caucus, Sola Akinwumi. The gathering aimed to build consensus and strengthen internal party cohesion ahead of the next political cycle.
The former governor urged all aspirants and party faithful to work together, prioritising the party’s success over personal ambition.
