The Accord Party has formally presented its Certificate of Return to Hon. Opeyemi David Falegan as its candidate for the June 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.
The presentation was made by the party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
Falegan emerged as the party’s flagbearer after a governorship primary held on November 8, 2025.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier scheduled party primaries in Ekiti State to take place between October 20 and November 10, 2025, with the final list of candidates due for publication on January 19, 2026.
Speaking at the event, Mgbudem congratulated Falegan on his victory, describing it as a reward for his “resilience, resourcefulness, integrity, and political sagacity.”
He stated that party delegates voted based on “competence, effective leadership, inclusive governance, unity, prosperity, and order in Ekiti State,” and expressed strong confidence that the Accord Party would win the 2026 election.
“In the same way we have gathered for the presentation of the party’s Certificate of Return to His Excellency, Hon. Opeyemi David Falegan, we shall gather again at the INEC office for the presentation of the Certificate of Return for his victory in the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election,” Mgbudem affirmed.
In his remarks, Falegan thanked party delegates for their confidence, saying his campaign would focus on seven key areas, including agriculture, education, youth employment, and infrastructure.
He said his administration would empower 1,000 youths monthly, totalling 48,000 youths within four years and fix major roads in the state within six months if elected.
