An Ibadan-based radio station Adamimogo 105.1 FM has emerged as the runner-up in the second edition of the Oba Kola Daisi SWAN 5-a-side football competition, after a tense final decided by sudden-death penalties at the Olubadan Stadium on Saturday, December 6.
The station’s team battled Ariya Networks FC to a 1–1 draw in regulation time but fell short in the penalty shootout. Their journey to the final saw them defeating rivals including 32FM FC, BCOS, and Dominion Radio in earlier rounds.
The final was graced by dignitaries including Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi (Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland), officials of the Ibadan Sports Commission, and representatives of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), the event organizers.
Team Captain Fortune Omosola, who is Head of News and Current Affairs at the station, praised the squad’s unexpected performance.
“Despite being first-time participants, we put in a stellar showing and surpassed our own expectations,” Omosola stated.
Coach Rabiu “Oshort” Ganiyu also commended the team’s spirit and vowed they would return stronger in future tournaments. The General Manager of Adamimogo FM, Joshua Adegbite, lauded the team’s resilience and said the station’s founder, Prophet Sam Olu-Alo, would be proud of their achievement.
Players such as Dayo Olujobi, Dimmachukwu Ndubuisi, Thiago Sports, Feranmi “Longman,” Opeyemi Praise, and Bode Jesse were among the standout performers for Adamimogo, which received a cash prize of N100,000 for finishing second.
Organizers announced that the competition would expand in scope and participation for its third edition next year.
