The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has dismissed reports that Senator Ireti Kingibe has been suspended from the party, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement today, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ADC is not aware of any decision to suspend the senator and urged the public to ignore the circulating reports.
Yesterday, chieftains of the ADC in Wuse ward, accused her of antiparty activities, suspending her indefinitely.
The party ward chairman, Kanayo Chuwku had accused Kingibe of seizing the party register and failure to pay party dues, among other offences.
The Publicity Secretary of ADC, FCT Chapter, Samuel Chukwudi Nwigbo, in a letter to all the National Working Committee also accused Kingibe of withholding funds meant for campaigns during the recent Area Council elections.
Nwigbo stated that Kingibe provided an office for party activities but retrieved it under strange circumstances for no justifiable reasons, adding that the ADC FCT is still holding important strategic meetings under trees.
He further questioned how a serious party would attempt to go into a major election with a candidate who refused to come openly and campaign for her party in a serious election held under her constituency.
However, Abdullahi insisted that the party has well-defined constitutional procedures for handling allegations involving its members.
The party therefore called on the public and media organizations to disregard the reports of Kingibe’s alleged suspension.
