A political and peace strategy expert, Dr. Gabriel Otu of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, has suggested that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could become more relevant on Nigeria’s political landscape if it embraces a younger, more dynamic generation of Nigerians ready to re-engineer the country’s future.
Speaking on Inside Scoop, a current affairs programme on Adamimogo 105.1 FM, Dr. Otu offered insights into the evolving state of Nigeria’s political parties ahead of the 2026 and 2027 general elections.
According to him, a common problem plaguing both mainstream and fringe political parties is the lack of clear political ideology. “There is a general absence of visionary frameworks capable of shaping social policy or defining how society should function,” he said.
While Dr. Otu stopped short of endorsing the ADC as a frontrunner in the 2027 polls, he maintained that the party has a window of opportunity to distinguish itself if it positions fresh, energetic leaders with transformative ideas at its core.
“The ADC must become a vessel for young Nigerians with innovative solutions if it truly wants to resonate with the electorate. That is the only way to present itself as a credible alternative,” he stated.
However, the don expressed concern over Nigeria’s lingering leadership crisis, despite the input of well-meaning citizens and political thinkers over the years. He warned that unless the leadership deficit is addressed head-on, no political party, new or old will make significant progress.
Dr. Otu’s comments add to growing calls for political reform, generational inclusion, and ideological clarity as the country approaches another crucial election cycle.
