Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has accused the Nigeria Police Force of torturing former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and breaking his hands while in custody.
The allegation comes in response to the police’s denial on Friday that Sowore was subjected to any form of mistreatment. Sowore, who is being investigated over alleged cyberstalking, was seen in a viral image with a bandaged arm, sparking public outrage.
In its statement, the police described the image as “mischievously presented to mislead the public and stir unwarranted outrage.”
Adeyanju, however, dismissed the explanation in a post on his official Facebook page, directly accusing the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, of overseeing what he called “the most useless IG in the history of the NPF.”
“You are a liar. The Nigeria Police tortured Sowore and broke his hands. And you will all pay for your crimes,” Adeyanju wrote.
