Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has denied speculations that he is plotting to remove his deputy, Dr Olayide Adelami, describing the claim as unfounded and driven by individuals seeking attention.
Adelami became deputy governor on December 27, 2023, after Aiyedatiwa was sworn in following the death of his predecessor, Rotimi Akeredolu. The duo later contested and won the 2024 governorship election on a joint ticket.
The governor’s reaction follows the circulation of a viral video in which a pastor allegedly predicted Adelami’s removal from office.
Speaking on Friday at the inauguration of the Ayegunle-Iwaro Oka Akoko Expressway in Akoko South-West Local Government Area, Aiyedatiwa publicly acknowledged his deputy and dismissed the rumour as baseless.
He praised Adelami for holding the fort in his absence and urged the public to ignore what he described as a fabricated narrative.
“Some people are spreading one fake video. Those people want attention,” the governor said. “They claimed they want to remove the deputy governor. For where? Where did they want to remove him from? Don’t answer them please; they are only looking for relevance.”
Aiyedatiwa added that there was no basis for such speculation, insisting that the working relationship between him and his deputy remains intact.
