Amazon Web Services (AWS) says it has resolved the core issue behind the massive outage that disrupted access to many of the world’s biggest websites and apps on Monday, though full recovery may take some time.

Popular platforms including Snapchat, Duolingo, Zoom, and Roblox were among those affected, along with Lloyds and Halifax banks, the UK’s National Rail, and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

According to outage monitor Downdetector, more than 6.5 million reports were logged globally, impacting over 1,000 companies.

In its latest statement, AWS said there are now “significant signs of recovery,” and that most customer requests are being processed successfully. However, it admitted that some technical issues persist.

“While we have applied multiple mitigations, we are still seeing errors for new EC2 instance launches,” Amazon noted, referring to its virtual computing service that allows users to run software applications remotely.

The company assured users that engineers are working to ensure full stability and performance restoration.

Many affected websites and services have since resumed normal operations, but intermittent disruptions are still being reported across regions.
