The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed that a road crash involving British-Nigerian boxing champion Anthony Joshua on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday was caused by excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.
In a statement issued on Monday by Corps Public Education Officer Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC reported that the accident occurred around 12 p.m. near the Sinoma area of Sagamu, Ogun State, involving a black Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and a stationary red Sinotruck.
Preliminary findings from the FRSC Ogun Sector Command indicate that five adult males were involved in the collision, and two of the occupants died at the scene.
Joshua, a two-time world heavyweight champion, was traveling along the busy expressway when the collision took place. The FRSC has reiterated the dangers of speeding and improper overtaking on Nigeria’s highways, which remain frequent causes of fatal accidents.
