The Chief Executive Officer of New York-based tech firm Astronomer, Andy Byron has resigned from his position following the circulation of a video showing him embracing an employee at a Coldplay concert.
The company’s board of directors accepted Byron’s resignation, according to a statement released on Saturday and obtained by CNN. A search for his replacement has already begun.
The incident drew widespread attention after the video went viral online, prompting speculation and a flurry of unverified statements attributed to Byron.
Astronomer quickly moved to dispel the confusion, stating via LinkedIn that Byron had not issued any public comment, and that “reports saying otherwise are all incorrect.”
The company also clarified that a third person visible in the video had been misidentified in online discussions.
In its formal statement, Astronomer reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a strong workplace culture:
“Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met,” the company said.
Founded as a platform specializing in data orchestration, Astronomer has developed a reputation in the tech industry for its enterprise support of Apache Airflow, an open-source workflow management tool.
