The National Executive Council of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will meet on Wednesday to determine the union’s next line of action following the conclusion of renegotiation talks with the Federal Government’s Yayale Ahmed-led committee.
In a last-ditch attempt to avert another shutdown of public universities, the government reopened discussions with ASUU on Monday. According to a senior NEC member, who spoke anonymously due to restrictions on media engagement, the renegotiation process began on Monday and is expected to be formally concluded today (Tuesday).
“The renegotiation meeting started on Monday and will end on Tuesday. After that, NEC will meet and determine our next steps by Wednesday. Everyone will know the outcome then,” the member said.
The outcome of Wednesday’s NEC meeting is expected to determine whether ASUU will proceed with industrial action or accept the terms reached during the renegotiation.
