Tragedy struck Zamfara State on Friday after heavily armed bandits reportedly killed no fewer than 50 residents of Dutsin Dan Ajiya village in Anka Local Government Area.
Residents said the attackers stormed the community late Thursday night, firing indiscriminately and spreading panic among villagers. A video circulating online showed victims wrapped in white shrouds ahead of a mass burial.
A local resident, who requested anonymity for security reasons, said the assailants sealed off all entry and exit routes before launching the assault, preventing many from escaping.
“After blocking all the roads, they began shooting at anyone in sight. People ran in different directions to save their lives,” he said.
He added that initial counts indicated at least 30 people were confirmed dead shortly after the attack, while several others sustained injuries. Many residents were also reported missing, with fears that the death toll could rise as search efforts continue.
Sources further disclosed that several villagers were abducted during the raid, which reportedly continued into the early hours of Friday.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from security authorities on the incident.
