Barau FC has alleged that one of its players, Nana Abraham, was stabbed in the neck by a pitch invader during a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match against Katsina United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Saturday.
Speaking to TheCable, the club’s Director of Media Operations, Ahmad Gwale, said the incident occurred shortly after Barau FC equalised in the 69th minute of the game, which ended 1–1.
Gwale explained that the attacker, believed to be “either from the Katsina United bench or one of their fans,” stormed the pitch and struck Abraham with what he described as “a sharp object.”
Photographs circulating on social media show the injured player lying on the ground with blood stains visible around his neck as teammates and officials rushed to his aid.
The disturbing attack has sparked outrage among fans and calls for an immediate investigation by the NPFL and security authorities to ensure the safety of players and officials during league matches.
