The Nigerian Army’s Operation Hadin Kai has confirmed that the explosion at a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Wednesday evening was carried out by a suicide bomber linked to Boko Haram.
Preliminary reports had indicated that the blast at the Al-Adum Jumaat Mosque in the Gamboru Market area occurred during the Maghrib prayer session, leaving at least five people dead and 35 others injured.
In an update on Thursday, Theatre Command spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba stated that investigations identified the attack as the work of a Boko Haram terrorist.
“Preliminary findings indicate the incident was caused by a suspected Boko Haram terrorist suicide bomber, who detonated an improvised explosive device, killing himself and two civilians on the scene,” Uba said.
