The Chairman of Ifelodun Local Council Development Area, Mayor Olufemi Akanbi Okeowo, has unveiled a ₦528 million social support and empowerment initiative targeted at petty traders, unemployed youths, senior citizens, and vulnerable residents across the council area.

Speaking during the event, Mayor Okeowo said the initiative forms part of his administration’s commitment to improving the living conditions of residents and providing sustained economic relief amid current economic challenges.

“This programme is designed to directly support our people and reduce the hardship many families are currently facing.

We are committed to ensuring that residents of Ifelodun LCDA feel the impact of governance through continuous empowerment and welfare support.”

Under the programme tagged OKEMONEY, 100 petty traders will receive ₦100,000 monthly for 24 months to support and expand their businesses.

Another scheme, OKEYOUTH, will provide ₦10,000 monthly stipends to 700 unemployed youths for the next two years to help ease financial burdens and encourage community development.
The administration also introduced OKEAGED, a welfare package for elderly residents, through which 500 aged persons will receive ₦10,000 monthly for 24 months.

In addition, the chairman announced the OKEFOOD Palliative Programme, which will provide monthly food support to 3,000 beneficiaries over the next two years.

According to Okeowo, the combined programmes represent a strategic intervention aimed at cushioning the effects of the current economic realities on residents of the LCDA.

“Our goal is to ensure that no vulnerable group is left behind.

From youths to traders and senior citizens, this administration will continue to implement people-oriented programmes that improve livelihoods.”

Residents and stakeholders who attended the event described the intervention as a timely and impactful relief effort expected to positively affect thousands of households within the council area.

“This is a welcome development for many struggling families.

The initiative will go a long way in supporting residents and giving hope to people at the grassroots.”

Mayor Okeowo further noted that the programmes will run continuously for two years as part of his administration’s broader social welfare and economic empowerment agenda.
