A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, his wife, Asabe Bashir, and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, in an alleged money laundering case filed against them.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court today ruled that each of the defendants should be granted bail in the sum of N200 million with strict conditions attached.
The trio were recently re-arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 16-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering. They had earlier pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them in court on February 27, 2026.
As part of the bail conditions, each defendant is required to provide two sureties in the sum of N200 million. One of the sureties must also deposit title deeds of properties located in either Maitama or Asokoro areas of Abuja.
The court further ordered the defendants to surrender their international passports to the court registry. They are to remain in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service until the bail conditions are met.
The case has been adjourned to March 16, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
