The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has upheld the final forfeiture of $13 million tied to Lagos socialite, Aisha Achimugu, and her firm, Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Ltd, in favour of the Federal Government.
Delivering the judgment on Wednesday, Justice Emeka Nwite ruled that the funds had been convincingly proven by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to be proceeds of unlawful activities.
The case stemmed from a suit filed by Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Ltd, which sought to recover the seized funds. However, the court held that the company failed to provide a credible explanation for the source of the money.
Justice Nwite further noted that the EFCC had complied with all legal requirements necessary to secure the forfeiture, thereby validating the agency’s claims.
