Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, saw their AfroBasket dreams cut short on Wednesday night after suffering a heavy 91–75 defeat to Senegal in the quarter-finals.
The Lions of Senegal proved too strong for the Nigerians, ending their unbeaten run and dashing hopes of a deep run in the tournament.
D’Tigers had begun their campaign on a high note, opening with a win over Madagascar before pulling off a statement victory against defending champions Tunisia. They completed a flawless group stage with a triumph over Cameroon, fueling optimism that Nigeria could mount a serious title challenge.
But the quarter-final clash told a different story. Senegal, who had themselves endured a group-stage loss, came out with fire and physical dominance, overwhelming the Nigerians in key moments of the game. Despite flashes of resilience, D’Tigers struggled to match the Lions’ pace and precision.
