The economic and financial crimes commission EFCC has repordetly dispersed protestors, who stormed the headquaters of the antigraft agency to demand justice for former governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai.

The protesters claimed EFCC was being used to witchunt the former minister, insisiting that El-Rufai or his supporters will not be intimidates.

Meanwhile, hundreds of demonstrators also stormed the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja, demanding a thorough probe into the alleged N432 billion corruption case involving former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

The protesters, under the aegis of the Mega National Movement for Good Governance, converged on the anti-graft agency’s headquarters, chanting solidarity songs and wielding placards with inscriptions such as “Answer The Charges El-Rufai” and “El-Rufai Not Above The Law.”

In a dramatic turn, the group made spirited attempts to march into the commission’s premises but were stopped by stern-looking security operatives stationed at the entrance.

Addressing journalists at the scene, the group’s spokesman, Muhammad Abdullahi, insisted that the corruption allegations against the former governor must not be trivialised or politicised.

Earlier

The Federal Government has filed a three-count charge against former governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai over the alleged interception of communications belonging to Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu.

Last week, El-Rufai claimed in an interview that he had listened to conversations from Ribadu’s phone after it was tapped by a third party.

While acknowledging that such interception is technically unlawful, he argued that illegal surveillance was not unusual.

However, the Federal Government, through the Department of State Services (DSS), filed charges against El-Rufai at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The government stated that El-Rufai admitted that he and his cohorts allegedly intercepted the NSA’s phone conversations.
