Governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Engr. Kayode Ojo, has condemned the attack on his supporters in Otun Ekiti, describing it as “barbaric, unfortunate, and uncalled for.”
The incident reportedly occurred during a peaceful political gathering on Saturday, sparking tension and concern ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
In a statement issued from Europe, where he is currently on an official trip, Ojo appealed to his followers to remain calm, law-abiding, and not resort to violence in retaliation. He accused agents allegedly loyal to the state government of orchestrating the attack, which led to several injuries.
“My ambition is not worth the blood of any Ekiti citizen. I urge all my supporters to stay calm and remain law-abiding,” Ojo stated, stressing his commitment to peaceful and democratic engagement.
However, the APC aspirant commended his supporters for their maturity and peaceful conduct during the attack and vowed to cover the medical expenses of those injured. He also pledged to visit the victims personally once he returns to the country.
Engr. Ojo, who currently serves as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, further urged security agencies in Ekiti State to remain neutral and unbiased in the discharge of their duties.
“Security personnel must rise above partisanship. The safety of every citizen must be their utmost concern,” he said, calling for better protection of lives and property across the state.
