Hundreds of civil servants in Ekiti East Local Government Area have benefited from a free cooking gas distribution initiative, courtesy of the Opeyemi David Falegan Foundation.
The palliative effort, which took place over the weekend in Omuo Oke, was lauded by residents and beneficiaries as a rare, life-enhancing gesture in challenging economic times.
Described as an outstanding humanitarian and apolitical philanthropist, Hon. Opeyemi David Falegan, founder of the charitable foundation, received widespread praise for his sustained commitment to the well-being of Ekiti citizens. The event saw a large turnout, with women civil servants in particular trooping out to express their gratitude in songs and testimonies.
In a statement made available to journalists, Comrade Adewumi Francis, media aide to Hon. Falegan, highlighted the impact of the initiative. He noted that the gas distribution was designed to bring immediate relief to struggling households, reflecting the foundation’s broader mission of compassion and community support.
“The kindhearted ceremony was held on Saturday in Omuo Oke, Ekiti, where hundreds of women all civil servants were singing praises of Hon. Falegan for the palliative,” Francis said. “Such a gesture, in this manner, has never happened in the area.”
He further maintained that the distribution went beyond addressing domestic fuel needs. “The impact of our outreach goes beyond the free cooking gas aspect. It radiates a sense of community, care, and solidarity that is truly heartwarming. Our people face various challenges, and this thoughtful gesture has shown them that they are valued and remembered.”
The initiative also prompted a broader call to action. Francis urged other well-to-do Nigerians to emulate the kind gesture demonstrated by the foundation, especially as government alone cannot meet the full scope of citizens’ needs.
“In a world where kindness sometimes feels scarce, ODF stands out as a beacon of compassion,” he added. “Our organization’s commitment to uplifting communities reflects our dedication to making the world a better place, one act of kindness at a time.”
He reiterated that philanthropy remains a vital complement to government efforts, especially in critical areas such as social welfare and education. “Government at all levels cannot fulfill all its promises to brighten the lives of the citizenry. That’s why NGOs and philanthropists are needed to help put smiles on people’s faces.”
The foundation has previously supported various developmental programs across Ekiti, particularly in child education and social welfare. This recent gesture further cements its reputation as a driving force for human-centered development in the state.
Grateful for the continued support, the media aide concluded by thanking Hon. Falegan for his generosity, describing the initiative as one that brought “immeasurable joy and relief” to civil servants facing mounting economic pressure.
“We are truly grateful to the brains behind this initiative. It speaks volumes about the empathy and compassion embedded in the mission of the Opeyemi David Falegan Foundation,” he said.
