Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court Abuja today refused one Emorioloye Owolemi permission to inquire into the NYSC certificate of Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Owolemi had secured permission from Justices Binta Nyako to inquire into the Secondary School Certificate of the minister, on the ground that there were discrepancies in his academic claims.
Owolemi had alleged that Tunji-Ojo absconded during his 2006 NYSC service, calling for all internal memos, queries, disciplinary reports or correspondences issued in relation to the alleged abscondment.
However, Justice Abdulmalik declined to grant the request, holding that the applicant did not indicate that he was acting in the public interest as required by law.
Speaking with newsmen after the court ruling, counsel to the activist Philemon Yakubu, SAN, said that he will consult with his client to determine the next line of action.
He said that the desire of his client is to ensure transparency, accountability and probity among the public office holders in the country.
