The Federal Workers Forum has confirmed the release of its National Coordinator, Comrade Andrew Emelieze, from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), declaring that the fight for workers’ welfare is far from over.
In a press statement signed by the Forum on Friday, the group described Emelieze’s release as a significant moment in its ongoing campaign against what it termed “anti-worker policies” of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
According to the statement, Comrade Emelieze had faced a series of political and legal challenges due to his open criticism of the government’s failure to address the plight of federal workers, particularly issues related to unpaid salaries, arrears, and poor working conditions.
“This is not the end, it is just the beginning. Nigerian workers must be paid their wages, arrears, and salaries promptly. The Federal Workers Forum’s six-point demand must be fully implemented by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the Forum declared.
The group also condemned what it described as the unlawful detention of workers and the general victimization of labour voices in the country, calling it a form of “modernized slavery.”
However, the forum expressed appreciation to legal practitioners, civil society organisations, and media outlets that stood by the group during the period of Emelieze’s detention. Particular commendation was given to Barrister Femi Aborishade and Y.A. Akinola of Abope Chambers for their legal representation.
