The Federal Government has approved the release of N48 billion to upgrade 12 Faculties of Engineering and Technology across selected federal and state-owned universities, in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s capacity in science, technology and innovation.

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, announced the intervention in Abuja while inaugurating the Ministerial Monitoring, Evaluation and Implementation Committee on TETFund High Impact Intervention Projects. He said the committee’s mandate is to ensure transparency, accountability and strict adherence to timelines in executing the projects.

According to the minister, the intervention will focus on enhancing infrastructure, equipment and teaching capacity in engineering and technology faculties — areas considered critical to national development and industrial growth.

The funding, facilitated through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), will benefit institutions drawn from the six geopolitical zones, reflecting what officials described as an equitable distribution strategy.

Among the beneficiary institutions is the Federal University of Technology, Minna, alongside the African Aviation University and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University.

Also listed are the Nigerian Army University Biu, Federal University of Technology, Babura and Shehu Shagari University of Education.

Other beneficiaries include the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Enugu State University of Medical and Applied Sciences and Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi.

Completing the list are Delta State University, Abraka, Federal University of Technology, Akure and University of Ilesa.
