The Federal Government has announced that staff earlier disengaged from the Dangote Refinery operations will be redeployed to other subsidiaries within the Dangote Group, following a truce reached between the company and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).

Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, disclosed this in Abuja on Wednesday, confirming that none of the affected staff will suffer a pay cut as a result of the redeployment.

“After examining the procedure used in the disengagement of workers, the meeting agreed that the management of Dangote Group shall immediately begin the process of redeploying the disengaged staff to other companies within the Group, with no loss of pay,” the minister said in a statement.

Dingyadi added that the agreement ensures that no worker will be victimised for their role in the standoff between Dangote and PENGASSAN.

He noted that the oil and gas workers’ union has, in turn, agreed to commence the process of calling off its strike, paving the way for industrial peace.

The minister reaffirmed the government’s position that unionisation is a fundamental right protected by Nigerian law and must be respected by all employers.

The resolution comes after days of tension between the refinery management and PENGASSAN, which had threatened to cripple operations in the oil and gas sector.
