A former Chelsea player and Ivorian International, Didier Drogba has been appointed to FIFA’s newly created Players’ Voice panel.
He was chosen alongside former Super Falcons striker Mercy Akide to help combat racism and discrimination in football.
FIFA announced the 16-member panel on Friday via its official social media platforms, confirming that Akide, a three-time Women’s World Cup veteran, would serve alongside former internationals from 14 associations spanning all six confederations.
The Nigerian football pioneer, now 50, joins Liberia’s president and former Ballon d’Or winner George Weah, as well as African icons Emmanuel Adebayor of Togo and Senegal’s Khalilou Fadiga.
According to FIFA, the Players’ Voice initiative is designed to give retired players a platform to shape anti-discrimination strategies and ensure football “remains a sport for all.”
