A formerMinister of Transport and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared his intention to stop President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from securing a second term in 2027, citing widespread hardship and government insensitivity.
Amaechi, who contested the 2023 presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the announcement on Wednesday while addressing a crowd of supporters who welcomed him at the Port Harcourt International Airport.
He used the occasion to formally resign from the APC and announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he described as a rescue platform capable of ending what he called the “bad governance” of the current administration.
“The suffering is unbearable. The current government has shown little care for the Nigerian people. We must rise and mobilise. Join the ADC in your numbers; it is time to take back our country,” Amaechi told supporters.
At the Port Harcourt rally, the former Rivers governor declared that the coalition’s mission is to liberate Nigerians from rising poverty, inflation, and insecurity, which he blamed squarely on the Tinubu administration.
Amaechi assured his audience that the ADC would provide a viable alternative and a people-focused government, urging Nigerians to embrace the new political movement for a better future.
