A former.Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has formally registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State.
The official registration took place on Monday, just days after Atiku informed ADC supporters and key stakeholders in Adamawa of his intention to join the coalition party.
His longtime aide, Abdul Rasheeth, confirmed the development in a statement circulated to journalists and obtained by PUNCH Online.
Dramatic visuals from the event captured Atiku’s convoy rolling into town to a rousing welcome. Supporters lined the streets, beating drums, singing, and waving placards bearing his portrait. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as the former vice president greeted crowds from his vehicle before receiving his ADC membership card.
Shortly after the ceremony, Atiku took to X (formerly Twitter) where he posted a concise message that quickly drew national attention:
“It’s official. – AA.”
His decision consolidates earlier signals from July, when he endorsed the ADC as a viable platform capable of uniting opposition heavyweights, including former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and ex-SGF Babachir Lawal, into a formidable challenge against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
